Natuurlijke ondersteuning voor groei en gezondheid
Acupuncture for children
Pediatric acupuncture is a gentle, holistic treatment specially tailored for children. It supports the body, stimulates natural energy, and promotes your child’s well-being — in a friendly, painless way.
A gentle approach
Children respond differently than adults. That’s why the treatment is subtle, brief, and tailored to their age, sensitivity, and temperament.
We always work in a friendly way, using techniques such as gentle touch, mild stimulation of acupuncture points, light massage, or targeted warmth (moxibustion). If your child prefers, a tiny needle may be used briefly, or the treatment can be entirely needle-free using the Shōnishin method.
Would you like to discuss first whether pediatric acupuncture is suitable for your child? Feel free to get in touch, and we can schedule a time to go over it together.
How can it help?
What does a session look like?
Pediatric acupuncture supports both physical and emotional balance. It can help with, among other things:
- Improved sleep and relaxation
- Reduced tension, stress, or restlessness
- Support for stomach aches, digestive issues, and asthma
- Support for ADHD, ADD, or concentration difficulties
- Relief from allergies and skin issues
- Painful periods, PCOS, or endometriosis
If your child’s condition or symptoms are not listed, please don’t hesitate to get in touch — we can discuss it together.
You and your child are welcomed in a calm environment to create safety and trust. Sometimes we schedule a brief phone call beforehand so your child can get familiar with the process.
The sessions are short, subtle, and tailored to your child’s needs. You, as a parent, are always present. It’s about quality, gentleness, and attention, not long or intensive sessions.
Shōnishin – gentle Japanese acupuncture
Shōnishin is a special form of Japanese acupuncture that is completely painless. Instead of needles, we use small rollers and gentle touches on the skin. This makes it ideal for children who are more sensitive, very young, or prefer not to have needles.

Are pediatric acupuncture treatments covered by insurance?
In some cases, acupuncture (including for children) is partially covered through a supplementary insurance plan. This depends on your health insurer and your specific package. It’s best to check with your insurer beforehand. If needed, I can provide an invoice.
How to pay
Payments can easily be made via QR code or Tikkie. Cash payments are only possible by prior arrangement.
Payment is made directly after the treatment, unless you are using a package or membership.
You will always receive an invoice by email after the session.
Canceling or rescheduling an appointment
Sometimes life doesn’t go as planned, which is completely understandable. If you need to reschedule or cancel your appointment, please do so at least 48 hours in advance so the time can be offered to someone else. Cancellations between 48 and 24 hours in advance: 50% of the fee will be charged. Cancellations within 24 hours or in case of no-show: the full fee will be invoiced. I prepare each treatment with care and attention, so that everyone receives the personal presence they deserve. Thank you for your understanding — this helps maintain the quality, calm, and attention in my work.

What’s comfortable for my child to wear?
Comfortable clothing works best. Think of soft pants, a shirt with short or easily rollable sleeves, and socks. Sometimes it’s helpful if the stomach or back is easily accessible, but we always work in a calm and respectful way.
What you may want to bring
Towels are provided, favorite cuddly toys often like to come along for a visit.
What does a child feel during the treatment?
Most children mainly feel relaxation, warmth, light tingling, or a sense of calm in their body. With Shōnishin, it often feels like gentle rolling, tapping, or stroking of the skin. If a needle is used, it is very brief and subtle.
What might my child feel after the treatment?
After a treatment, you’ll often notice that children:
- are calmer
- often sleep more soundly.
- may show more emotions (a gentle release)
- or may feel more energetic
Sometimes a symptom may temporarily become a bit more noticeable before it eases. This doesn’t happen to every child, but it can occur.
Is pediatric acupuncture safe?
Yes. The treatment is gentle, child-friendly, and tailored to the child’s age and sensitivity. I always work with hygienic materials and techniques that are appropriate for a child’s body.
Is it safe to have acupuncture alongside my child’s medication?
Yes, in most cases. Acupuncture can usually be used alongside medication. There’s no need to stop any medication for a treatment. If in doubt, we’ll discuss what’s appropriate, and I always recommend consulting your child’s doctor or specialist as well.
Bij twijfel stemmen we samen af wat passend is, en adviseer ik altijd om ook je huisarts of specialist te betrekken.
Can it be combined with other therapies?
Yes. Pediatric acupuncture and Shōnishin can often complement other therapies very well, for example:
- osteopathy
- physiotherapy
- speech therapy
- mental health support / coaching
- nutritional therapy
The goal is not “either-or,” but to support the whole.
When is pediatric acupuncture not suitable?
If your child has a fever, an acute infection, or is simply feeling too unwell, we’ll reschedule the appointment. I can still provide advice based on Traditional Chinese Medicine over the phone. In cases of complex medical situations, we always proceed with extra care, and I aim to work as a complement, not a replacement, to conventional care.
